When Canada introduced Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs), it revealed a glaring gap: while business owners were drawn to the emotional promise of legacy preservation, the system offered little clarity around financial viability and transition logistics. We uncovered this tension and set out to transform excited skepticism into trust.

Since the concept of EOTs sparked a strong emotional response among Canadian business owners, we built on this by creating a heartfelt ad showing an owner selling their business to their employees. We also identified one of EOT's key strengths: its partnerships with advisors and employee-owned companies. After identifying LinkedIn as a key complement to our paid ad strategy, we used it to share thought leadership content from the EOT leaders, advisors, and employee-owned companies for awareness around financial viability and the transition process.

We used highly targeted strategies to inform niche audiences about EOTs: business owners considering retirement and lawyers/accountants likely to advise on these transactions. Along with monitoring audience data for relevance, we also spot-checked profiles of engaged users to refine our targeting for better results.

When Pura launched exclusively with Walmart in the US, a flaw in the market became clear: eco-friendly baby care was seen as niche and regional, not mainstream. We uncovered an opportunity to challenge this perception by repositioning Pura around its 'no compromise' promise – making sustainability accessible to all American parents, everywhere.

We took a holistic growth approach, combining paid ads with organic efforts and influencer/brand partnerships. Using insights from organic campaigns, we gathered insights to fuel our paid ads. We launched the first ads in cities with the highest density of Walmarts carrying Pura’s products to showcase ROI before expanding. Testing showed that less-produced ads performed best, so we doubled down on working with UGC creators to present messages from parents in a raw format. While the industry status quo was to advertise to moms, based on testing there was a significant opportunity to connect to all parents.

Strike with precision

We created an ever-evolving growth plan for Pura, running monthly sprints with various tests. We broke the mold by featuring dads and saw these ads take off despite the status quo. To enhance credibility, we paired our ads with trusted brand partnerships like Environmental Working Group (EWG) and the ThinkDirty app, knowing Americans often rely on them for independent research. This strategy helped Pura establish credibility in the US market, creating multiple touchpoints with parents to drive conversions and achieve 218% YOY sales growth.

  • Optimization: Creatives that significantly outperform the performance campaign are graduated into the performance campaign where they replace underperforming ads, while others are kept in the hopper for future use when needed.
  • Analytics Review: We analyze test results and other noteworthy data to inform future strategies in an insight-driven dashboard tailored to each sprint.
  • New Sprint Brief: Based on past sprint results, curiosity, inspiration, and analytics, we propose new sprints to drive ongoing growth.
